Determined to find out for my myself I flew out to spend a week in the diversely populated city located on the west coast in British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"1105\">From soaring mountain views to seaplane rides, laid-back markets to axe-throwing on mountaintops, here is my dreamy week spent in the famously easy-on-the-eye Canadian city and I&#8217;ve included my week&#8217;s itinerary at the end too, in case you want to do the same trip&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1365\" data-end=\"1573\">1. This was one of the city\u2019s most famous spots which was also home to the Skyride Gondola.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"514\" data-end=\"921\">The gondola ride to the top had a distinct twist &#8211; I opted to stand securely on the roof of the gondola (yes really)! Seeing them up close (in an environment that thankfully mimicked their natural habitat &#8211; I&#8217;m not a fan of zoos at all!) was a real highlight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1373\" data-end=\"1578\">I also indulged in a bit of axe-throwing. As a total pacifist, I didn\u2019t expect to enjoy it as much as I did but I found not only was it surprisingly addictive, I also found I was surprisingly good at it!<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1792\">Before leaving I also discovered the unusual attraction the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grousemountain.com\/eye-of-the-wind\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eye of the Wind<\/a>, which was a 65-metre-high wind turbine with a unique viewing pod where I saw superb panoramic vistas of the city and its surroundings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"131\" data-end=\"168\">Grouse Mountain \u2013 At a Glance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"172\" data-end=\"226\"><strong data-start=\"172\" data-end=\"185\">Location:<\/strong> 15 minutes north of downtown Vancouver<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"309\"><strong data-start=\"229\" data-end=\"247\">Getting There:<\/strong> Drive or take the free shuttle from Canada Place (seasonal)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"312\" data-end=\"334\"><strong data-start=\"312\" data-end=\"332\">My Top Experiences: <\/strong>Ride the Skyride Gondola (or take the Skyride Surf Adventure on the roof!), Watch the lumberjack show (seasonal and family-friendly), Visit Grinder and Coola, the resident grizzly bears, Try axe-throwing or zip-lining, Take in the views from the Eye of the Wind turbine<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"661\" data-end=\"743\"><strong data-start=\"661\" data-end=\"669\">My Tip:<\/strong> Arrive early in summer to avoid crowds and enjoy cooler weather for hikes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"\" data-start=\"162\" data-end=\"219\">\u200d2. It was home to bustling public market, artisan shops, waterfront restaurants, cool craft beer breweries, theaters and a very vibrant arts scene &#8211; all set on a scenic peninsula under the Granville Street Bridge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sr-only\">The vibe felt wonderfully artsy, and delightfully local &#8211; to me it felt like a creative village tucked right into the city,<\/p>\n<p class=\"sr-only\">I spent a few hours there going for an artisan coffee at the Off the Tracks Espresso Bar &amp; Bistro, browse handmade ceramics and blown glass in the artist&#8217;s studios, dined on a gourmet dinner in the trendy Dockside Restaurant, and then sit by the marina simply watching the boats drift by as the sun set.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"720\" data-end=\"757\">Granville Island \u2013 At a Glance<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"853\"><strong data-start=\"761\" data-end=\"774\">Location:<\/strong> Just south of downtown, accessible via Granville Bridge or False Creek ferry<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"873\"><strong data-start=\"856\" data-end=\"871\">Famous For: <\/strong>Granville Island Public Market \u2013 fresh produce, baked goods, deli treats, Artisan shops &amp; galleries \u2013 local ceramics, jewellery, and textiles and Granville Island Brewing \u2013 one of Canada\u2019s first microbreweries, \u201cGiants\u201d mural by OSGEMEOS \u2013 massive, colourful public art painted on silos<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1260\"><strong data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1206\">Vibe:<\/strong> Creative, colourful, and always buzzing with energy<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1197\" data-end=\"1260\"><strong data-start=\"1263\" data-end=\"1271\">My Tip:<\/strong> Go in the morning to beat the crowds or in the evening to watch the sunset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"\" data-start=\"147\" data-end=\"217\">3. and this turned out to be one of my favourite parts of the whole trip!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"279\" data-end=\"692\">The take-off alone was exhilarating &#8211; one moment we were gliding gently across the water near Canada Place, the next we were soaring into the sky with the North Shore Mountains on one side and the glistening city skyline on the other.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"912\">From above, Vancouver revealed itself in layers &#8211; it was the fierce-looking bow of a traditional Chinese junk ship, complete with a vivid red and green dragon curling out angrily into the harbour sky.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"790\">This was actually part of a striking public art piece located at Vanier Park, near the Vancouver Maritime Museum and to me it perfectly represented how incredibly diverse the city was.<\/p>\n<h2>My Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">As each day I spent exploring the city got better and better, I often wondered if there were any downsides to the city. There was the rain and also the nightlife wasn\u2019t as hip or lively as say I what I&#8217;d experienced in Berlin and London, but to be honest that was a small price to pay!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">It struck me as a city completely at ease in its own skin &#8211; clean without being sterile, interesting without trying too hard, beautiful but never arrogant &#8211; and by the time I data-start=\"1325\" data-end=\"1727\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1325\" data-end=\"1427\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1327\" data-end=\"1427\">Cycled the full <strong data-start=\"1343\" data-end=\"1367\">Stanley Park Seawall<\/strong> loop \u2014 stopped at <strong data-start=\"1386\" data-end=\"1402\">Second Beach<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1407\" data-end=\"1425\">Prospect Point<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1428\" data-end=\"1511\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1511\">Paused to admire the incredible <strong data-start=\"1462\" data-end=\"1509\">First Nations totem poles at Brockton Point<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1512\" data-end=\"1607\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1607\">Picked up a picnic at <strong data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1563\">Granville Island Market<\/strong> earlier in the day (yes, it was perfect!)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"1727\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1610\" data-end=\"1727\">Later, I boarded a <strong data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1653\">Harbour Air seaplane<\/strong> from Canada Place \u2014 soaring photos of the <strong data-start=\"2078\" data-end=\"2100\">Giants mural silos<\/strong> at Ocean Concrete \u2014 one of the most unexpectedly colourful highlights!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" Morton Park and couldn\u2019t help laughing along<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2529\" data-end=\"2629\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2531\" data-end=\"2629\">Wandered into <strong data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2558\">Chinatown<\/strong> and admired the striking <strong data-start=\"2584\" data-end=\"2610\">Chinese junk sculpture<\/strong> near Vanier Park<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2630\" data-end=\"2718\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2718\">Discovered fun shops and heritage facades in the area \u2014 full of character and contrast<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2720\" data-end=\"2839\"><em data-start=\"2723\" data-end=\"2737\">Dinner idea:<\/em> Grab a cocktail at <strong data-start=\"2757\" data-end=\"2778\">Storm Crow Tavern<\/strong> (think: board games meets Mad Max), then explore nearby eats<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2841\" data-end=\"2844\">\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2846\" data-end=\"2894\"><strong data-start=\"2850\" data-end=\"2894\">Day 5 \u2013 Forest Escapes: Lynn Canyon Park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"3209\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"2992\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2898\" data-end=\"2992\">I took the bus out to <strong data-start=\"2918\" data-end=\"2947\">Lynn Canyon National Park<\/strong> \u2014 the perfect free alternative to Capilano<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2993\" data-end=\"3108\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2995\" data-end=\"3108\">I crossed the <strong data-start=\"3007\" data-end=\"3028\">suspension bridge<\/strong>, wandered the shady forest trails, and watched families splash in the streams<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3211\" data-end=\"3319\"><em data-start=\"3214\" data-end=\"3235\">Evening:<\/em> I chilled out with pizza and prosecco by the water at <strong data-start=\"3286\" data-end=\"3304\">El Chioschetto<\/strong> on the Zattere<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3321\" data-end=\"3324\">\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3326\" data-end=\"3374\"><strong data-start=\"3330\" data-end=\"3374\">Day data-end=\"3471\">I visited the fascinating <strong data-start=\"3402\" data-end=\"3428\">Museum of Anthropology<\/strong> and learned about First Nations cultures<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3472\" data-end=\"3594\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3474\" data-end=\"3594\">I saw the <strong data-start=\"3482\" data-end=\"3508\">Digital Orca sculpture<\/strong> at Canada Place \u2014 much more humane (and photogenic!) than seeing one in an aquarium!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3595\" data-end=\"3680\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3597\" data-end=\"3680\">I walked along the <strong data-start=\"3614\" data-end=\"3638\">Waterfront Promenade<\/strong> and watched the floatplanes come and go<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3682\" data-end=\"3748\"><em data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3693\">Lunch:<\/em> Tacofino tacos and people-watching near the Waterfront<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3750\" data-end=\"3753\">\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3755\" data-end=\"3800\"><strong data-start=\"3759\" data-end=\"3800\">Day 7 \u2013 Culture + Catch-Ups + Sunsets<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"3802\" data-end=\"4048\">I finished the trip with sunset at <strong data-start=\"3980\" data-end=\"3995\">English Bay<\/strong> \u2014 the city glowing, waves lapping, people relaxing<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li
