This is known as being one of the most romantic islands on the planet! I personally thought the maze of narrow, cobblestone streets that weave through striking white buildings and blue domes, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of the deep blue Aegean was and spectacular sunsets was seriously dreamy! Although it was really busy with tourists during my summer trip, it’s still a very special place – it’s popular for a reason! <\/p>\n
Located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 kilometres southeast of Greece’s mainland, part of the Cyclades island group it was formed by a massive volcanic eruption around 1600 BC. I was in awe of its dramatic caldera views, unique volcanic-sand beaches, and ancient ruins.<\/p>\n

I was personally wowed by its iconic whitewashed Cycladic buildings, colourful shutters, winding cobblestone streets, glistening seaside views, and chic vibe all set against the dazzling blue of the Aegean Sea. Yes it is a popular party island, but it’s still a jaw-dropping beauty spot!<\/p>\n
Located in the Aegean Sea, this island is part of Greece’s Cyclades group, situated between Tinos, Syros, Paros, and Naxos, about 150 kilometers southeast of Athens. Covering 85.5 square kilometers, it is known for its iconic windmills, vibrant nightlife, and photogenic Cycladic architecture, with stunning white-washed cube buildings surrounding a picturesque fishing village bay<\/p>\n
I spent a week here staying at the Insta-worthy 4-star WhiteArt Suites<\/a> and relaxed on sandy beaches (the lively Paradise, family-friendly Ornos, the stunning Platis Gialos Beach<\/a>, and the serene Elia were my favourites), explored the charming Little Venice area with waterfront cafes and boutiques, visited the iconic 16th-century windmills, strolled through the cobblestone streets of Mykonos Town and watching a striking sunset at Paraportiani Church.<\/p>\n

Among the chaos, there were pockets of really spectacular beauty – with world-famous ancient landmarks and neoclassical buildings, set against a backdrop of golden sandy beaches and rocky coves along the Athenian Riviera. I thought it was a very unique city, gritty in some parts, but it was definitely never boring!<\/p>\n
\n\n\n\n\n\nLocated in the southern part of Greece, in the region of Attica, Athens is one of the world\u2019s oldest cities, home of democracy and the cradle of Western civilization. I discovered a city brimming with eclectic neighborhoods (Plaka, Thissio, and Syntagma were my favorites), incredible restaurants offering both modern and traditional cuisine, lively rooftop bars, bustling food markets, and a vibrant mix of shops, cafes, and nightlife.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
I spent four days here staying in the gorgeous trendy 4-star Stanley Hotel<\/a> and explored the Acropolis and Parthenon, strolled around the eclectic neighbourhoods, visited the Ancient Agora (which once served as a served as a bustling marketplace), discovered the National Archaeological Museum<\/a>, relaxed along the scenic Athenian Riviera, and enjoyed sunset views from Lycabettus Hill.<\/p>\n

- Seeing the incredible ancient monuments which seem to spring from literally every corner in the city, even in the H&M store! The popular fashion store had a visible section of an ancient wall preserved inside a glass case! <\/li>\n
- Sipping on a Stormy Martini cocktail at A For Athens Rooftop Bar<\/a> which had incredible views of the Acropolis. It was very crowded on my trip and very hard to get a seat, but it was worth the wait!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

I personally loved its beautiful sandy beaches, dramatic gorges and mountains, and charming towns filled with Venetian harbours, whitewashed buildings, and ancient ruins. <\/p>\n
Located in the southern part of the Aegean Sea, at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, it spans an area of 8,336 square kilometers. I found it to be home to the ancient Minoan civilisation, some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean, and a blend of lively and more serene resorts.<\/p>\n
While here, I relaxed on my favourite beaches \u2013 the pink-sanded Elafonissi and the pristine Balos \u2013 explored the ancient Palace of Knossos, hiked the famous Samaria Gorge, strolled through the Venetian harbour of Chania, visited the historic Arkadi Monastery, and took a boat trip to the stunning Balos Lagoon.<\/p>\n

- Visiting Takis Shelter<\/a> , a social media star Takis is famous all over the world for rescuing dogs and housing them at his cage-free shelter. My favourite resident was the funny and sweet Grioula! <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
5. Rhodes<\/h2>\n

I was in awe of its blend of medieval charm, with ancient stone walls and cobblestone streets, golden beaches, turquoise waters, green hills and vibrant yet timeless vibe! Although it’s home to some lively party resorts, there are still many unspoilt areas of truly outstanding natural beauty. <\/p>\n
The largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, it’s located in the southeastern Aegean Sea, near the coast of Turkey<\/a> and covering an area of 1,401 square kilometres. It’s home to an UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town, the Colossus of Rhodes’ historical legacy, and it’s one of the sunniest places in Europe with over 300 sunny days annually.<\/p>\n
I spent a week here at the gorgeous 4-star White Olive Premium Lindos<\/a> and relaxed on stunning beaches (my favourites were the soft-sanded Tsambika, the peaceful Agathi Beach and the secluded Anthony Quinn Bay), strolled through the medieval Old Town and Street of the Knights, explored the ancient acropolis of Lindos, visited the gorgeous Valley of the Butterflies, and hiked to the Monolithos Castle which had superb views.<\/p>\n

6. Zakynthos<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\nThis dazzling gem is also called Zante! I fell for its golden sandy beaches, dramatic sea caves like Navagio, famous ship-wreck, lush green hills, and charming whitewashed buildings with Venetian-inspired architecture, picturesque villages and its laid-back yet vibrant vibe. <\/p>\n
\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s nestled around 10 miles from the western coast of the mainland of Greece. It is the third-largest island in the Ionian group, covering an area of 405 square kilometres. A popular Mediterranean destination, Zante is famous for its Shipwreck Beach, Blue Caves, and the adorable loggerhead sea turtles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
I stayed here for a blissful seven days and visited the very Insta-worthy Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach, explored the mesmerising Blue Caves, relaxed on the stunning sandy beaches (my favourites were Laganas and Kalamaki) snorkelled with loggerhead turtles in Marathonisi Island\u2019s clear waters, explored the hilltop Venetian Castle in Bochali, and sampled the awesome nightlife in Zakynthos Town! <\/p>\n

\n\n\n\n\n\nA popular place to holiday, it’s nestled off the northwest coast of the mainland, in the Ionian Sea, covering an area of 593 square kilometres. I found out about its Venetian architecture, its role as a strategic naval hub in ancient times, and that it was one of the greenest Greek islands with over two million olive trees.<\/p>\n
I stayed for five days in the Intsa-worthy 4-star Art Hotel Debono<\/a> and as well as relaxing, I explored the historic Achilleion Palace, wandered through the charming streets of the UNESCO-listed Corfu Old Town, hiked to Angelokastro Castle and saw gorgeous sea views.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

8. Kefalonia

<\/p>\nThis is such a ruggedly picturesque and tranquil island! I always wanted to visit Kefalonia after reading Captain Corelli’s Mandolin<\/a> (which made the island famous!) and when I did I found seriously dreamy scenery including towering limestone cliffs, sandy beaches lapped by glistening turquoise waters and impossibly pretty villages featuring pastel-coloured Venetian-style buildings. <\/p>\n
It’s the largest of the Ionian Islands, located in western Greece in the Ionian Sea, covering an area of 781 square kilometers. Positioned southwest of Lefkada and northeast of Zakynthos, it\u2019s an increasingly popular destination, yet it retains a relaxed vibe, traditional Greek way of life with tasteful, low-rise boutique-style hotels for accommodation.<\/p>\n
I stayed here for a dreamy fortnight and swam at the iconic Myrtos Beach, explored the mystical Melissani Cave and underground lake, visited the picturesque village of Assos, relaxed on the serene Antisamos Beach, strolled along the charming Argostoli Harbour and hiked Mount Ainos, which had breathtaking views of the island! <\/p>\n

9. Cyprus<\/h2>\n

<\/picture>Omodos village<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n Cyprus<\/a> is an eternally popular holiday destination! On my trip I was totally won over by its mix of golden sandy and rocky beaches, crystal-clear waters, and charming towns which featured ancient stone buildings, Byzantine churches, and Venetian fortresses, all set against a backdrop of rugged mountains. I found that people to be incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the food was especially divine! <\/p>\n
It’s nestled in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, south of Turkey<\/a>, covering an area of 9,251 square kilometres. The island is divided into the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the north, separated by a UN Buffer Zone. I have to admit, the political situation gives the island a slightly edgier vibe, with some areas being completely off-limits (the border that runs through the once-popular resort of Nicosia).<\/p>\n
I found the party zones were Nissi Beach in famous Ayia Napa and Paphos (just slightly more chilled) and Pissouri, Latchi, and Polis were the quieter options.<\/p>\n
I personally went really rustic and stayed in the very peaceful mountains at the relaxed 4-star gem Casale Panayiotis<\/a> but I hung out at the popular soft-sanded Fig Tree Bay, explored the ancient ruins of Kourion, visited the historic Kyrenia Castle, hiked the scenic Troodos Mountains, and discovered the UNESCO-listed Painted Churches which had very ornate Byzantine frescoes! <\/p>\n
